The eyes have it….

….Or at least are tested clear of any defects or abnormalities πŸ˜‰

We took Gable in for his OFA eye exam two weeks ago and, as expected, he passed with flying colors.

We also sent off for his PRA test to be done officially. While we know he is line clear, having it officially recorded can be important to some breeders and puppy owners as well.

His OFA results can be found here:Β http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1668840#animal

Oh The Herding We Have Done…

Well, its not really all that much. But its been an adventure! I really never saw myself as someone who would ever be excited about putting letters at the end of a dogs name – but I’ve been bit by the herding bug and its a lot of fun!!

In early July (July 4th weekend, to be exact) we participated in our first herding trial as entrants. Oh the nerves! I havent been that anxious and nervous about dog events in a LONG time! Gable was entered in HT both days (the Herding Tested class – which requires the dog to have a controlled pause at the beginning, to change the sheeps direction twice – essentially, the easy way is to do figure 8’s, which is what we did – and to stop and recall at the end.) and unfortunately, the trial had the same judge both days, so while he qualified both days, only one leg counted towards his HT title (need two, under two judges, for the HT title)

So in August, we went to our second trial as participants. I think I was more anxious and nervous at this trial! Needless to say, Gable did AWESOME on Saturday, qualified on his HT run, and pending AKC approval can now add the letters HT at the end of his registered name. So now he will be Ch Allegro Grandiose Frankly My Dear, HT. Β  Β On Sunday, I was brave and moved him up to the next level – Pre-Trial Tested, or PT. I said at the beginning of summer that HT was my goal and anything beyond that would be gravy…..and Gable said he liked gravy a lot, because he had an amazing PT run and qualified for his first PT leg! PT requires 2 legs under 2 judges, so he needs one more leg under another judge to finish his PT title. There is another trial in a few weeks, so we will see if the herding gods will smile on us one more time at least to finish that up. I couldnt be more proud of Gable. We’ve learned a lot this summer. Makes me wonder what else Mr Handsome might be capable of accomplishing!

Herding We Will Go….

This spring has been an adventure – we starting taking herding classes with Gable and Gizmo. Gable herds sheep, while Gizmo much prefers the ducks!

Our goal is for both of them to earn their Herding Tested titles this summer/fall….trying not to aspire any higher than that for the moment – herding is a workout both mentally and physically!

Herding Group Specialty Results…

I entered all the Cardis in the local Herding Group Specialty show the last weekend in May. Figured why not πŸ˜‰ may be crazy, but it may be worth it. It was a great weekend!

On Friday, May 30th, under Judge Sharon Anne Redner, our Gable (Allegro Grandiose Frankly My Dear) went Winners Dog from the Bred By Exhibitor class, and went on to go Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex over 2 male Specials to turn 2 points into a 4 point major!! Go Gable!Β

Our Domino (Samhain Sticks and Stones) was Reserve Winners Dog to Gable.

Baby Flutter (Bluefox Elyan Mariposa) was Reserve Winners Bitch, and had a grand time all weekend. Shes so stinkin cute, and its hilarious that every judge over the weekend told her how cute she was while she was on the table. She loved every second of it!

Widget, (Ch Samhain Witchcraft at Grandiose) who we decided to play with to see if we can get her Grand Championship done this year before she gets bred, was awarded Best of Breed for a 5 point Grand Champion major and another Champions Defeated win. Nothing in group for Miss Widget.

On Saturday, May 31st, under Judge Debra Long Gschwender, Domino was Winners Dog for a 3 point major, and went on to be awarded Best of Winners and BEST OF BREED from the classes over 4 Specials for a 5 point major! Go Dom! Thats one heck of a way to earn your first major!

Flutter was again Reserve Winners Bitch (to the bitch major).

On Sunday, June 1st, under Judge Rick Gschwender, Gable was Winners Dog (for 2 points) and went on to Best of Winners (for another 4 point major).

All in all, it was a great weekend. 2 majors for Gable, a major for Domino, a Grand Champion major for Widget, and major Reserve for Flutter. Yep. Great weekend πŸ™‚

Catching Up, Nationals, Etc…

Seems like all I do is catch up lately…

We had a great time at the 2014 CWCCA Nationals. The only ribbons we brought home this year were from the photo contest, but then again, the only dog I took was 11 month old Gable, who looks very much like a gawky 11 month old right now. And he was in 2 of the biggest dog classes. His brother Jake did well, making the cut in both sweeps and his regular class. It was a grand adventure for Gable, he took flying in stride, and enjoyed the trip. We actually drove home, which was another adventure, and brought a cute baby girl back with us πŸ˜‰

Not half bad for a hairless, gangly teenage boy Cardi πŸ™‚

We brought back baby Flutter with us. Flutter is from the now infamous Dickens/Lowri litter that had an amazing debut at the National, at 6 months and a minute old…

I just got home last week, and have been catching up on things around the house…but I took Camille in for her BAER test yesterday. While I was pretty certain she hears just fine, since she is a white headed dog, and because she “pretends” to not hear quite often, I figured it cant hurt anything to get her tested! She, of course, came back with perfect hearing in both ears. She no longer has an excuse for being naughty πŸ˜‰

And speaking of testing, I sent Gables DNA tests off before we left for Nationals, and got the results emailed to me while I was gone. We tested him for DM (although we knew he was line clear), Pink, Fluff, and we wanted to see if he carried Black (both his sire and dam do, but since the entire litter was brindle, there was a 50/50 chance that the boys would carry or would not carry for black). He came back as DM Clear (as expected) but a carrier for Fluff, Pink, and Black. *sigh* But not the end of the world πŸ™‚ Fluffy puppies are pretty dang cute πŸ˜‰ Wish he would have been clear for pink, but oh well. And we are sort of excited he carries for Black. Which means if bred to a black girl, there should be black puppies. And if bred to a brindle girl who carries black, there could be black puppies as well. (although, you know, much like Nash and Lexi, that isnt always the case! LOL)

I think thats all thats going on here…lots of getting ready for summer and dirty muddy dogs and no more snow and waiting for summer shows to come around πŸ™‚ Will try to get better about keeping things updated on here….but I cant promise anything πŸ˜‰

Introducing….

Well, not really, since he was born here….

But *Officially* introducing Gable. Who will be formally known as Allegro Grandiose Frankly My Dear.

Gable is our keeper puppy from the Nash x Lexi litter, who will all be named with “Gone With The Wind” themed registered names. Gable is a handsome little guy who had our eye for a few weeks before the official 8 week puppy evaluations. Super happy fun puppy with quite the naughty streak πŸ˜‰ Hes been a lot of fun so far, and had a couple of big adventures, including to the dog shows this past weekend where he tended to be a traffic stopper with his corgi puppy cuteness and “Oh hey you, come pet me” attitude.
